SOME COMMON QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

HOW DO I MEASURE FOR MY NEW DOORS?

Usually the old doors can be measured and replaced exactly as they are but always remember to measure the back of the door where you will usually have a square edge whereas the front will often have a curved profile making it impossible to measure accurately

Sometimes you will want to combine two or more doors, make doors larger to cover adjacent spaces or you may be fitting new units of a non-standard sizes. If this raises queries you can't answer, try looking at the article measuring for your new doors which you can download from this site (and print) if required.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
To help you when measuring for your new doors, print off a copy of the very useful door and drawer front schedule
which will help you record all the doors and drawer front sizes in your kitchen, in an organized format. You can send this to us for a quote or when you want to order. Please click here or go to "Order" on the menu bar above, for more details of how to order your new kitchen or bedroom doors

WHERE SHOULD THE HINGE HOLES BE DRILLED IN MY NEW DOORS?

If you are fitting new kitchen doors to old cabinets and using new hinges, it is usually a good idea to avoid having the new hinge plates in the same position on the cabinets as the old ones, in case the old screw holes in the cabinet are worn and the new screws won't hold.

However, if you are intending to re-use the old hinges because they are fairly new, then you will want to drill the holes in the new doors in the same place as the old ones

Measure the distance from the top of the door to the approximate centre of the top hinge hole in the old door (usually a 35mm diameter hole). Do the same from the bottom of the door to the centre of the lower hinge hole. A typical result could be 100mm from the top and 100 mm from the bottom. You might then specify 120mm up and 120mm down, if you are using new hinges, or 100mm up and 100mm down if you are re-using the old hinges.

WHY DOES THE ORDER FORM ASK IF I WANT LEFT HAND DOORS OR RIGHT HAND DOORS?

A left hand door is one with the hinges on the left when you look at the door from the outside of the cabinet with the door closed

If the door is reversible, for instance a "Lincoln" door with no pattern, or a "shaker" door, with a symmetrical pattern, then it normally isn't necessary to specify a "handing" because the door can be turned upside down to hinge on either side.

The exception with a symmetrical door is when the drillings for the hinge holes are not the same for the top and bottom hinges. (e.g. 100 up/120 down) The handing then must be specified as left hand door or right hand door, as of course it must be if the door itself is a non-symmetrical, like the Westbury kitchen door which has a square bottom to the central pattern and
an arched top

Don't worry. If you send in an order without stating the door handing, we will always contact you to ask. We will never process an order where a door needs to be "handed" without checking.
